TriNet Architect Addresses Silicon Valley Forum
SAN JOSE, Calif.-September 23, 2009-Stuart Robbins, Chief IT Architect at TriNet, Inc., presented his theory about Service-Oriented Architecture to the Taos Architecture Consortium (TAC) on Wednesday in San Jose.
The TAC is a membership-based networking group that brings together IT infrastructure and applications architects from a wide variety of industries and disciplines. The objective of the group is to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, experience, methodology, and approaches that will accelerate the effectiveness, impact, and value of architecture. Meeting on a monthly basis, the group shares individual experiences and insights regarding the business value, framework, and process benchmarking of the Enterprise Architecture function.
In his book, The System is a Mirror (published by John Wiley & Sons in 2007), Robbins proposes that organizational architecture must also be considered a part of the Enterprise Architecture strategy. His prime theorem declares that "our systems will not talk to each other if the people who design and support them aren't talking to each other." Based upon research first conducted at Credit Suisse in New York City, Robbins told the audience of technologists from numerous Silicon Valley firms that older, more traditional approaches to hierarchical organizations need to be transformed to the same degree that we wish to transform our information systems.
"We reflect ourselves in what we build," Robbins explained, adding that we must therefore change ourselves in order to adopt new architectures. "Otherwise, it is like blaming the mirror for our appearance, and then simply buying a new mirror rather than doing the harder work of addressing the failures in our teams and organizations."
Carrina Cappadona, Director IT Management Consulting at Taos, added, "When establishing the TAC, our goal was to provide additional value to the Bay Area's technology community and to advance the architecture knowledge base. We're excited to have such talented architects, such as Stuart Robbins, contributing their expertise and helping us attain our goal. Stuart shared a different perspective on Enterprise Architecture strategy, and the discussion that followed was lively and thought-provoking. It is these diverse perspectives and individual professional experiences that are the basis for the TAC's success."
